Andy Galpin is an American exercise physiologist. He was for many years a professor of kinesiology at California State University, Fullerton, and is now affiliated with Parker University in Texas.
His research includes the study of single muscle fibres: how they adapt to training, and how strength, speed and endurance differ at the cellular level.
He works with elite athletes, including in combat sports and professional teams, and wrote the book Unplugged (2017) with Brian Mackenzie and Phil White.
A broad audience got to know him through a series of fitness episodes on the Huberman Lab podcast. He then launched his own podcast, Perform with Dr. Andy Galpin.
His core message is that a good training programme combines several qualities: strength, muscle mass, endurance, speed and mobility.
For longevity, he matters because he translates scientific training principles into realistic plans for ordinary people.
Takeaway: plan your week with both strength and endurance training, and leave room for recovery and mobility.
